COVID-19 antibody test and booster vaccinations at OKW in Buchen

It has been only 4 months since the second vaccination against Corona by the company doctor Dr. Michael Mikolaiczik at OKW Gehäusesysteme, and the STIKO is now also recommending booster vaccinations for people aged 18 and over who have very low antibody levels. This is reason enough for OKW to take action again in cooperation with company doctor Dr. Michael Mikolaiczik. In order to be able to better assess their own risk, OKW offers all its employees from the group of companies in Buchen and Schlierstadt the option of an antibody test.

At the beginning of the week, 140 tests had already been carried out by company doctor Dr Michael Mikolaiczik. The results arrive daily from the lab - personally in an envelope for each participant. The first booster vaccinations are planned for this coming Saturday, 27.11.2021, for affected persons with very low antibody levels, if they so wish.

Enclosures and tuning knobs for medical technology

Enclosures and tuning knobs by OKW are popular for packaging medical electronics and operating devices, not just since the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic. This was also confirmed at the Compamed trade fair in Düsseldorf last week (15.11-18.11.21). International customers appreciate the well thought-out design, the high product quality and the fact that the standard enclosures and tuning knobs will be available for decades. OKW offers a broad portfolio of services, e.g. mechanical processing, painting, printing and much more. In this way, the devices can be adapted to meet individual customer requirements.

For years, OKW Gehäusesysteme, based in Buchen, has been an exhibitor at the Compamed trade fair (for supplier products and services for the medical industry), which takes place annually parallel to the Medica, the world's largest medical technology trade fair. 46,000 trade visitors (with an international share of 73 percent) from 150 nations took the opportunity last week to see the latest innovations and products directly on site - everything Corona-compliant, of course - at the stands of the 3,033 MEDICA exhibitors and 490 COMPAMED exhibitors.

"The COMPAMED 2021 has been extremely successful for us. The fact that we were on site, live and with our own stand, during these uncertain times went down very well with the visitors. Due to the pandemic, our expectations, like those of pretty well all exhibitors, were somewhat lower than usual, and we were thoroughly surprised by the high visitor figures and the quality of the discussions," says Michael Reimold, Sales and Marketing Manager at OKW. The highlights on the OKW stand in Hall 14 were the new CONTROL-KNOB range of tuning knobs which, at the request of customers, can now be illuminated, and the CARRYTEC range of large-volume enclosures. They have integrated handles for easy carrying in mobile use and have plenty of space for touch displays (8.4" to 13.4") and control panels.

OKW maintains its high quality standards and uses its potential through targeted training and further education

At the beginning of September, the control audit in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 was conducted at OKW by the external auditor of DQS.

A further highlight was the new 3D scanner – it is now possible to carry out highly complex and extensive measurements quickly and digitally in products and processes.
"This unbiased view once again confirms that we are continuously improving our organisation and working methods, which is in line with our high quality standards," says a pleased Yvonne Ellwanger, member of the Executive Board.

OKW vaccinates its employees on site against COVID-19

As of 7 June 2021, the priority regulations for vaccinations came to an end in Baden-Württemberg, and company doctors can now vaccinate within companies. OKW Gehäusesysteme reacted immediately and offered to vaccinate all its employees in administration, logistics and production against COVID-19.

OKW decided to do the job properly – OKW employees can be vaccinated against Corona in their own company. Of the approximately 124 employees, around half have not yet been vaccinated, and have gladly accepted the offer. The first doses of the mRNA vaccine from BioNTech/Pfizer have already arrived and are being injected under the direction of Dr. Michael Mikolaiczik, a long-standing company doctor. First there was the information sheet on the vaccination against COVID-19, then the questionnaire on medical history and the consent form. In addition to the documents, the company doctor also offers personal consultation and answers all questions that may still be unanswered.

"Since February we have been waiting for this opportunity and working on the preparations – and now we are overjoyed, proud and relieved that vaccination can finally start for everyone in the OKW family – directly at the workplace, so to speak," says Managing Director Christoph Schneider.

The dates for the first vaccinations are Wednesday, 16.06. and Saturday, 19.06. Vaccination is carried out in the first-aid room, which is located in the new administration building - next to the "Turtle" - in Friedrich-List-Strasse. To rule out any possible reactions to the vaccine, each employee is then observed by a doctor for a certain period of time. The second vaccination is then scheduled for July. In addition to OKW itself, the entire workforce of the OKW Group at the Buchen and Schlierstadt locations will also receive a vaccination offer.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 lung disease, OKW Gehäusesysteme has produced more high-quality enclosures than ever for medical applications, as well as tuning knobs, which are essential for the operation and control of ventilators, for example. As a result, OKW was granted the status of a systemically important KRITIS company as early as April 2020.
